Via Vinera was born in 2018 in the heart of Northern Trace. It is the new brand under which the Karabunar wine cellar will present its products to the connoisseurs of truly good wine.
Every New Beginning is a Return to the Past.
The wine cellar was established in 2007 in the “Sharovitsa” area near the village of Karabunar where vineyards and wine have been a part of local life since ancient times. We based our Bulgarian Heritage collection on the traditional Bulgarian grape varieties of Dimyat and Misket, driven by the desire to revive the Bulgarian wine-making traditions. The collection’s merits were recognised in a number of prestigious international wine competitions.
The Bulgarian Heritage collection’s Dimyat and Misket wines vintage 2014 won special recommendations from the Asian edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards 2015 - one of the most prestigious competitions in the world.
In the 2016 edition of the same contest, Misket 2015 was awarded a bronze medal.
Misket vintage 2016 won a gold medal at Vinaria 2017 - the leading international wine forum of Bulgaria, as well as the recognition of "Best white wine of a local Bulgarian variety" from the Bulgarian Union of Oenologists.
The unique interpretation of the traditional Bulgarian Mavrud harvest 2015 won a gold medal at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2017.
The wine cellar relies on high quality grapes harvested from its own vineyards located in the Karabunar and Kilifarevo regions, where terroir characteristics favour the growth of typical Bulgarian varieties, such as Dimyat and Red Misket, as well as a wide variety of international grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Malbec, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
Via Vinera – New Wine, New Identity
We were proud to present in September 2017 the first bottles of Via Vinera – the brand name for our collection of wines made with mastery and love from high-quality grapes and aged in oak barrels to develop a unique taste and character. Via Vinera will be the name on the labels of all the wonderful wine collections produced by the Karabunar wine cellar. We created Via Vinera, inspired by the noble desire to continue the centuries-old traditions of Bulgarian wine makers. Under this brand, our skilful winemakers will turn with passion and skills the excellent grapes from our vineyards located in areas of unique terroir not just in wine,but in one of a kind experience for the senses.
